Self-Talk

It is important to speak to yourself in a positive manner.  It is not always easy, but it is necessary to effectively
deal with the negative messages that we are bombarded with on a daily basis from numerous sources.  Self-
talk creates the mindset for success, or defeat.  If you are constantly beating yourself up for mistakes or
setbacks you wear yourself down and start believing that you can never succeed.  It will have a negative
impact on your self-esteem.  Conversely, if you speak to yourself in a positive manner it creates a positive
belief system that empowers you to live the life you desire.

“To establish true self-esteem we must concentrate on our successes
and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives.”
                                                                                       Denis Waitley

We have all made mistakes in the past.  There is not a single person who hasn’t done something that they
wish they couldn’t reverse.  But what is done is done.  Mistakes are lessons to learn from and provide us with
an opportunity to improve and become better than ever before.  Instead of holding yourself back by focusing
on what you have done wrong and talking yourself down, why not think about your positive attributes and
encourage yourself to take positive action to effectively achieve what you want.

By talking to ourselves in a positive manner, we set in motion a positive powered momentum that can take us
anywhere we truly wish to go.  You have what it takes and always have and that’s all that really matters. Limit
listening to negative talk from others, and stop speaking negatively to yourself.  Begin confidently telling
yourself you can do it all day, every day for the rest of your life. Then go out there and make it happen.

Be kind to yourself this week,
Kevin

Break Free From The Bondage
So many of us live our lives as if we were are trapped, or in bondage, by what life has provided us so far.
We work at jobs we don't like, participate in communities that no longer serve us, or live in places that don’
t provide us what we want.   We don't have time to learn a new skill or hobby, or return to school in order to
enhance our careers. We are trapped by self-induced fears of failure, or embarrassment.

Out on a Limb
Whenever you take a chance and go out on a limb, you risk the possibility of falling flat on your face.
However, in order to enjoy the “fruit” of your labor you have to keep climbing, and occasionally have the
courage to go out on limb.  Unfortunately, we often fear the prospect of failing or making a mistake.  So
rather than climbing the tree, or boldly reaching for opportunities, too many people elect to remain on the
ground where it is perceived to be safe.  While staying on the ground may keep you from falling from the
tree it doesn’t prevent you from falling down.

Your Independence Day
So many of us are too busy, distracted, confused, or frustrated, to take advantage of our personal freedom.
We don’t take the time to envision a clear direction, develop an action plan, and do the hard work to pursue
our passions in life.  Too many people are trapped by debt, stuck in jobs they don’t like, or living a lifestyle
that doesn't meet their needs.

Attitude Makes a Difference
We sometimes fail to recognize just how important out attitude is in overcoming life’s most troubling
situations.  Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us.  It determines our fate and our
future.  If we sincerely believe that life is full of abundance, opportunity, and happiness, it will be.  With a
great attitude there is nothing that can keep you down or hold you back.

Bend, Don't Break
Getting down on yourself is a normal experience that we go through every now and then.  Even the most
successful get down from time to time.  But, while it is okay to be down, it is not okay to stay down.  Keep in
mind that nothing can break you without your permission.  And, anything that doesn’t break you can
ultimately make you stronger.

Positively Motivated
To stay positively motivated, begin by examining your core values.  This is where so many people struggle.
Here is an example: We might state we value being ambitious, because we “think” we should value
ambition, but in reality we actually value relaxing and vacationing more.  So, it is important to get real clear
your values, and determine what is most important to you.

The Gremlin Inside
In each of us is an inner voice that is constantly trying to steal our dreams.  That inner voice or “gremlin”
does not like change and is very critical.  It is constantly telling you lie’s about your abilities and your
potential.  It is always there to point out your weaknesses, your fears, and your past failures.  It takes joy in
reinforcing your self-limiting judgments.  The gremlin is there to hold you back and keep you down.

Throughout the course of any day we talk to ourselves.  It happens when
we’re alone, or even in discussion with others.  This continual self-talk can
be positive or negative depending on the quality of dialogue we have
within.  In a society that is quick to gossip and talk you down why would
you want to join in the unconstructive conversation?  If we openly criticized
our friends the way we criticize ourselves we would eventually have no
friends.
You always
have a choice,
even if it is
only a choice
of your
attitude.
